Sustainability Conference

A number of CFUW Kelowna members attended the CFUW 2007 AGM in Vancouver.

CFUW Kelowna presented an environmental workshop Treading Lightly on the Earth.

**************************

The workshop leaders presented evidence for the catastrophic effect that climate change has had on the forests of British Columbia.  The Mountain Pine Beetle is munching its way through the pine forests of BC and has now been found in Alberta.  Warmer temperatures over the last few years have allowed the beetle to flourish.  Although the beetle has its place in nature, cold winter temperatures usually kept its numbers in check.

The second part of the Workshop presented information about how individuals can reduce their own carbon footprint, as well as sharing information how individuals, communities and businesses are finding innovative ways to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
