WHO WE ARE

CFUW Kelowna was founded in 1960 for Women Graduates and is affiliated nationally and internationally.

WHO CAN JOIN

Membership in CFUW Kelowna is open to any woman who holds a university degree or who has earned a professional qualification that currently requires a university or college degree.

Women without these qualifications are welcome to join as Associate Members.

Associate Members are entitled to all the privileges and responsibilities of Membership in CFUW. Associate members shall support the objectives and purpose of CFUW. Associate members shall pay full CFUW per capita dues

Student Membership: CFUW defines a Student Member as a woman who is a resident of Canada and is a full time university student and is enrolled in a degree, diploma or equivalent program that could lead to graduate studies. A Student Member is entitled to all the privileges and responsibilities of CFUW and would pay 50% of CFUW per-capita dues and 50% of CFUW Kelowna Dues.

DUES

Membership fees are currently $90 per year. This amount includes dues paid for the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) Head Office activities, and BC Council.

WHAT WE DO

The Communicator

Several times a year the CFUW National Office produces the Communicator Newsletter. It covers current events throughout the Federation.

	Hold monthly meetings from September to May, with a business component followed by guest speakers.
	Present scholarships and bursaries (approximately $10,000 annually*), with sizable endowment funds established at Okanagan College and the Central Okanagan Bursary and Scholarship society (COBSS).
	Coordinate Interest groups and study groups.
	Host various social functions during the year.
	Contribute to many community projects annually. Past recipients have included the Kelowna Women's Shelter; Project Literacy; Habitat for Humanity; Mission Park Greenway; the EECO Centre; Gellatly Nut Farm.
	Act as a catalyst to initiate various projects including: formation of OUC; boat donation water sampling to South Okanagan Health Unit; Career Night for High School girls and MS Infinity Conferences to encourage girls in Science; Kelowna Community Theatre; 'Friends of the Library', initiating first three book sales; Capsule College, and public lectures for 25 years.

CFUW members travelling outside of Canada may complete a form requesting an introduction to visit CFUW affiliates.

AFFILIATIONS.

We are a member club of the Canadian Federation of University Women. CFUW has over 9,000 members across Canada. There are 23 clubs in CFUW BC Council. CFUW is a member of the International Federation of University Women (IFUW) which includes 78 countries.

These affiliations provide opportunities for members to communicate on global issues and travel to annual meetings hosted by clubs around the province and across Canada, as well as triennial meetings of IFUW.

CFUW BC Council membership consists of the 23 CFUW Clubs located within the Province of British Columbia. There are three Regional Districts- BC East/North with five clubs, Vancouver Island with seven clubs and BC West with eleven clubs.

The council’s purpose is:

	to promote co-operation and to facilitate communication of information and ideas among CFUW clubs in British Columbia.
	to promote the policies and programmes of CFUW.
	to encourage and initiate studies with respect to matters of provincial concern.
	to keep CFUW informed of special concerns in British Columbia; and to make or to direct representation consistent with CFUW purposes, to the appropriate provincial authorities.
