Canadian Federation of University Women Kelowna

Since 1960 CFUW Kelowna has have provided fun, friendship and activities for our members,

support for our community and for young women in education.

Interest Groups

The interest groups offered by the club provide an excellent avenue for like-minded members to participate in informal activity groups. They become an opportunity to form friendships and to network.  Each group sets its own schedule according to participants' needs.

These groups are constantly evolving as members' interests change.

Coordinators' contact information can be found in the Club Newsletter sent to each member every month.

"I really enjoy the interest groups.  Meeting in a smaller group with people who enjoy the same interest has been a great way to make friends."

Book Chains

Readers in Book Chains read one book a month, then pass it on at the club general meetings from September to April.  Cost is shared equally.  Book List 2009-2010

 Couples Sociable Dining

Celebrating more than 20 years of Dining

"We strive for fun and informality".

Couples in this group take turns hosting informal dinner parties, usually on the last weekend of the month.  (This, however, is flexible depending on the host and when guests can agree on a date.)

Currently we have 19 couples.  We now have four hosts each month.  This means that each couple will have 8 to 10 people at each dinner.

The host couple organizes the menu and theme (if any) and tells their guests what to bring.  Hosts provide the main course.

We dine at houses in September, October, November, February, March and April.  We do not meet in December, and we dine as a group at a restaurant in January and May.

 Ladies Dining Out

Our Ladies Dining Out group meets on the second Thursday of each month usually at 6 pm at a different restaurant each month.

Out-to-Lunch Group

Members enjoy friendship and conversation at a different restaurant every month.

They meet on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 11:45.

New Members can sign up for interest groups at the monthly meetings.

The Walking Group  If you want some enjoyable exercise then this is the group for you.

THE WALKING GROUP

meets on Fridays at 9:30 am in the parking lot of the Parkinson Recreation Centre.

Walkers carpool and participate in the cost of the gas at a rate of 10c per kilometer for a $2 minimum. A list of walks is posted in the monthly newsletter for all CFUW members to read and a weekly update with specific directions to the trailhead and last minute changes or additions is sent on Thursdays to all those who are in the Walking Group. There is no need to let anyone know if you CANNOT walk but if you come we are pleased to see you!

Leaders always carry a cell phone.

We usually have coffee afterwards.  Occasionally we are invited to someone's house but there is no obligation to attend as some people are busy and want to combine other activities with the walk.
